Code of Conduct
Buchanan Youth Softball Baseball Association (BYSBA) Code of Conduct
Parents and players should have a standard Code of Conduct, no matter which sport they play. How parents treat kids and officials affect how kids play. Sports is what we strive to improve upon. Enjoyable youth sports are very possible if parents and kids follow these Codes of Conduct.
Parents’ Code of Conduct
- Do not force your children to participate in sports but support their desire to play their chosen sport. Remember, kids are involved in sports to have fun.
- Teach your child to play by the rules at all times. Remember, kids learn by example, so be a strong role model for them. Always applaud the good play of both teams. Also understand that your child’s eligibility for selection to an All-star team depends on their conduct and ability to be a “Team Player” as much as their sports ability.
- Never embarrass your child by yelling at them, their coaches, other players or the officials. Yell positive encouragement to your child and all other players on both teams. No Coaching from the stands.
- No negative social media comments.
- Be knowledgeable of the rules of your sport and support the officials at all times. Understand that officials are only human and they’re going to make mistakes, just like you make mistakes in your life. Teach your child that the game they are playing is much more rewarding with officials than without them.
- Applaud and encourage good effort in victory and defeat. Emphasize the positive things your child did in a game and never tell your child they lost the game because of them or any other player.
- Understand the value of the volunteer coaches and how important they are in the development of your child and the sport they are playing.
- Last but not least, have fun and your child will have fun. Help out and volunteer!
Players Code of Conduct
- Work hard to improve your skills and have fun doing it. Be a team player by getting along with your teammates. Learn teamwork, sportsmanship and discipline.
- Be on time for games and practices.
- Learn the rules of your sport and play by them. Obey the rules of your team and always be a good sport.
- Respect your coaches, teammates, opposing teammates, your parents and the officials at all times. Never argue with an official. Also understand that your eligibility for selection to an All-star team depends on your conduct and ability to be a “Team Player” as much as your sports ability.
- Fall in love with the sport you are playing.
If the above Codes of Conduct are abused:
- 1st and 2nd offenses: the offending player/parent will be suspended and asked to leave immediately. If you are asked to leave, and refuse to do so, law enforcement will be utilized. Coaches, umpires and BYSBA Board members have the authority to ask you to leave. Suspension duration will be determined by the BYSBA Board of Directors.
- 3rd offense: the offending player/parent will warrant expulsion from the organization and the expulsion will be enforced by the BYSBA Board of Directors. If a child is expelled, no refund of fees will be given. The BYSBA Board of Directors can be petitioned in writing to do a secondary review of the cases of expulsion. The decision of the BYSBA Board of Directors is final.
